Fostering Meaningful Connections with Nature
The best way to experience nature is to get out there and enjoy it, and our diverse range of community
programming brings people closer to the outdoors. We host more than 25 events per year, free to the community.
Stewardship
Dedicated volunteers enhance trails, manage meadows, remove invasive species, and restore thriving native habitats. This ongoing commitment ensures that our conserved lands remain healthy, beautiful, and accessible for all.
Partnership
In partnership with nonprofits, clubs, and local businesses, we design collaborative projects that restore habitats, improve trails, and deepen the community’s connection to nature.

Stewardship Sundays
Through Stewardship Sundays, community members of all ages come together to care for Wilton’s natural landscapes and strengthen their connection to the environment. In just 1.5 hours, participants help maintain trails, restore biodiversity, and support the long-term health of our preserves. This welcoming, hands-on program is open to everyone who wants to make a meaningful difference in our local environment.

Books & a Blanket
Books & A Blanket is a free, family-friendly series that invites young children and their caregivers to explore nature through stories, creativity, and outdoor play. Offered in partnership with the Wilton Library and Wilton Go Green, this one-hour program is held multiple times throughout the spring and fall. Participants enjoy interactive story time, make an up-cycled nature-themed craft, and take a short walk across Chestnut Meadows. Bring a blanket, breathe in the fresh air, and share a joyful outdoor experience with your little one—picnics welcome!
Wildlife Releases
In partnership with Wildlife in Crisis, the Wilton Land Trust helps rehabilitated wild animals return to their natural habitats on our preserves. These intimate events offer a rare and meaningful opportunity to witness wildlife recovery firsthand and celebrate successful releases. Due to the sensitive nature of these moments, attendance is limited—but videos of past releases are available on our website.

Turtle Time
Turtle Time with TheTurtleRoom offers a rare glimpse into the hidden lives of turtles and tortoises. As one of the world’s most endangered vertebrate groups, these remarkable species are often misunderstood. Participants meet turtles up close, discover how they navigate their environments, and learn simple ways to support their conservation. Be sure to look out for this special program!
Birds of Prey
Experience New England’s birds of prey up close during this annual live raptor program presented in partnership with the Sharon Audubon Center. Featuring hawks, owls, falcons, and other native species, this event offers an exciting opportunity to learn about their behaviors, adaptations, and essential roles in our ecosystems. All are welcome to attend; however, pets are discouraged as they may disrupt the birds and the presentation.

Birds & Binoculars
If you’re a fan of our feathered friends, you’ll love Birds & Binoculars, our guided bird-watching hike led by resident bird expert and naturalist Joe Bear. Scheduled during peak migration seasons, this walk through Schenck’s Island invites participants to spot and identify a variety of birds as they pass through Wilton. All ages and experience levels are welcome—bring a friend, enjoy the outdoors, and discover the wonders of birding together.
Wellness Walk
Being in nature has been linked to various benefits, including lower stress, improved attention, better mood, reduced risk of psychiatric disorders, and increased empathy. Spending time outdoors in nature can be a balm for our busy brains.
The Wellness Walk is meant to get you outside, breathing the fresh air. In partnership with Stay at Home in Wilton, we spend time in the beautiful outdoors.

Annual Meetings
We host our Annual Meeting each February, bringing members together to review the year’s accomplishments, conduct essential organizational business, and elect Trustees, with Officers chosen every two years. The meeting also includes a featured keynote speaker offering insights relevant to our mission. All Members are invited to attend, participate, and help shape the Land Trust's future.
